Attributes of the Righteous

Proverbs 10:2

Here, as in many places in the Proverbs, the writer contrasts the attributes of the wicked and the righteous. Let us notice some particular aspects of those deemed righteous.

1. The Labor of of the Righteous. (10:16)
Here is noted that the work and efforts of the righteous lead to life.

2. The Lips of the Righteous. (10:21)
The conversation of the righteous brings blessings to others.

3. The Desire of the Righteous. (10:24)
Like in many other places in Scripture, here the Bible assures the righteous that their desires shall be granted. See Psalm 37:4

4. The Hope of the Righteous. (10:28)
Gladness is here noted as the end result of hope of the righteous. This hope is not wishful thinking, but divine assurance.

5. The Integrity of the Righteous. (11:3)
The righteous are directed in all ways by truthfulness & integrity. Genuineness is such a needed feature in every believer's life.

6. The Righteousness of the Righteous. (11:6)
Not a redundant phrase, but a sure truth...the righteousness of the righteous is a gift from the Lord Jesus, not an achieved merit. Thus, we are delivered from death and destruction by the work of Jesus for us.

7. The Blessing of the Righteous. (11:11)
God's blessings on His people also affect the society in which they live. We are light and salt in a dark and tasteless world of misery and pain. We are commanded by Jesus to let our light shine as a positive witness and influence. (See Matthew 5:16)

Conclusion: Do you know Jesus Christ as your personal Saviour? You can today and then be considered righteous by God Himself. That is the greatest thing in life.
